entry: HI jeff great work by the way. just a quick comment on your last terrain tutorial.
How do you get the height displacement map to work?
I cant seem to find it.
had to cheat and use a mix map and then a black and white output map with values of 300+ to get the displacement to work. (it looks fine but is a bit tricky to get the desired heights, needs alot of experimenting.

entry: The height displacement map was added to Max7, so if you're using Max6 then that would explain why the height displacement map isn't available. OR, if you're using Max9 and trying to add it to an A&D material, it won't show up as an option for the "normal" displacement map. You have to scroll down to the mental ray connection rollout at the bottom of the A&D material and use the displacement map slot there instead.

entry: hello jeff, congratulations for your great work, as I understood in your blog of the 2006 these producing dvds of trainings for 3ds max, and that you hope to have them to beginning of the 2007,

where the dvds trainings of mental ray can be acquired, for their purchase?

entry: Hi Jeff,

First off, fantastic work. Do you know if there is some way to the combine Normal mapping with the mental ray car paint shader?

Thanks

entry: Mike: Check the paint.mi file and remove the "hidden" tags from the shaders there. After that you might be able to build your own car paint shader inside the mental ray material. From there you could use a normal bump map in the mental ray material.

Although, I've been very happy with the car paints I've been creating with the A&D material. So you might want to give that a try and use a normal map inside the bump map of the A&D material.

Neil: Thank you for the support!

CoreArquitectos: Unfortunately I've had delays (again). I was hoping to have the videos ready for SIGGRAPH, but at this point it looks like I'm going to miss that deadline. After SIGGRAPH looks like I'm going to just lock myself in a room and finish these videos.

entry: Firstly, I just wanted to let you know I think your work is top notch and I that it's great that someone such as yourself is willing to devote so much time to various forums to help the rest of us saps out!

Ok, now that i've massaged your ego (sincerely) would it be impolite of me to pick your brain? I have been trying to amend your max 6 caustic water scene for use in my own work and I've replaced the spot and skylight with mr sun and mr sky but now I get no caustics (even with the light energy ramped up to 1000000 and the caustic photons up to 250000). Any ideas?
