Chowda - Most of my concrete is an A&D material with a concrete bitmap for the diffuse, specular, and bump. However I also have some procedural concretes, and at times I'll even mix the two (procedural & bitmaps).
Jason: It's for a few projects actually. Some training material...and I may also use it in my masters class at SIGGRAPH this year (not 100% sure about that yet). Also, I wanted to use it to create an animation or two for a certain plugin review...
Neil: Thank you sir!
Glacierise & Moryabi: Sorry for the late replies. Thank you for the comments.
Thanks for everything you've shared Jeff - the materials, tutorials, and information in general (here and elsewhere in the forums) has been incredibly helpful.
HI jeff great work by the way. just a quick comment on your last terrain tutorial.
How do you get the height displacement map to work?
I cant seem to find it.
had to cheat and use a mix map and then a black and white output map with values of 300+ to get the displacement to work. (it looks fine but is a bit tricky to get the desired heights, needs alot of experimenting.
The height displacement map was added to Max7, so if you're using Max6 then that would explain why the height displacement map isn't available. OR, if you're using Max9 and trying to add it to an A&D material, it won't show up as an option for the "normal" displacement map. You have to scroll down to the mental ray connection rollout at the bottom of the A&D material and use the displacement map slot there instead.
hello jeff, congratulations for your great work, as I understood in your blog of the 2006 these producing dvds of trainings for 3ds max, and that you hope to have them to beginning of the 2007,
where the dvds trainings of mental ray can be acquired, for their purchase?
