I could understand and/or accept it more if I had released something that was rather expensive. I would just assume that the high cost was driving the pirating which to be honest is what I've always thought was the case. Looks like my logic was wrong because I'm talking about some $5.00 to $20.00 training videos here...or maybe that IS expensive these days due to the economy.
Hi Jeff! I was in the Master Classes of Gnomon in past december, great class from you about 3dsmax rendering. Hope that more people buy your videos instead of pirate them. I am from South America (Ecuador) and here there are no schools for learning 3d, so all we have is great people like you and the gnomon guys that make awesome material. Wish i could afford going to Gnomon but what I can do is afford investing in some Master Classes and will look forward to buy your tutorials in www.thegnomonworkshop.com since I am considering switching from Maya to Max because the Rendering and materials (for me itīs just to complicated the shading networks in maya). Hope those tutorials help me in the switch.
Also when you buy a tutorial you will feel that you are learning and make the compromise to see al the vide and understand it. Maybe its just a crazy feeling I have but itīs good to know that the money is going to the person that make the video.

Funny, I'm actually considering switching from Max to Maya because most of the job listings I've seen lately are for Maya artists. :(
i'm a massive fan of MR, i use both Mray and Vray. Currently there are only a couple of things that i use vray for. Extremely easy displacement (especially sand), the ability for two different slots (GI environment Override/Reflection overrides), fur. That's it.
I have seen your videos and am in the process of buying them through my job. Work like me to be taught by the best so take it as a compliment
I have seen the displacement vids and hdr vids but was just wondering if they are likely to solve my problems. Basically i'm asking if these vids cover the max equivalent of:
vray displacement modifier
how to use separate hdr's for reflection and lighting in the same scene
cheers
really looking forwards to getting hold of these vids and i can assure you i will be paying for these and not climbin aboard the pirate ship. you've supported us all enough, the least we can do to repay the help you've given is to purchase the vids.
What is it about sand that you can do with the VRay displacement modifier that you can't with the displacement options in mental ray?
The separate lighting & HDR is a simple one. All you need to do is assign the environment HDR to your scene environment and then assign the lighting HDR to the skylight in your scene & enable FG. Ex.http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=6&t=810610
On the pirating thing...I know there are a lot of people out there that still buy the content. I also know that some of the people that look at the pirated stuff will eventually purchase the software/content IF it's something worth while to them.
Like it or not I guess we all have to simply accept that's just today's reality.
I've been a fan of your work for a long time now, and I have just recently purchased one of your Gnomon videos (interior lighting), and will be looking to get a few more in the future...
Just a quick question, when I downloaded the file from Gnomon, was there meant to be an attached scene file that I could follow along with? Or just the video itself? I always like to work through a similar scene as I progress through the video.
