Wow, thanks for the "paranoid pointer". I've been deliberately NOT posting any CG on sites like Facebook for those reasons, but now I'll have to be cautios on more respected art sites, too. Bummer.

I tend to agree with you too Jeff, I don't mind helping people out, but when others are possibly going to make a fast buck from that, then I am going to feel less inclined to line their pockets. Asking is one thing but assuming ownership and cutting me out of the equation quite another. I just wanted to add thanks from the bottom of my heart for all the Mental Ray advice, be that typed or the scenes & examples you have donated your time to produce over the years. Its really hepled understand this renderer and i feel your partly responible for its acceptance and to some degree sucess. You should have been given shares in Mental Images by now (hint hint) Much kudos to you sir!
The least they should do is to mention name of the authors and send a free copy of the book to them!
Are they legally allowed to set these rules for their forums?!!
Would they have the right to publish a book from Mobius ring?!

or paris world fair WIP's of Lemog:
http://lemog.cgsociety.org/gallery/
or many other WIP threads would be an excellent book for making of's.
MaryamNademi: I'm not a lawyer, so take what I say with a grain of salt...I would assume they would have the right to publish some of the forum content like what you mentioned as that is covered in the forum rules/guidelines. IMHO by posting content on a site, you're basically saying that you've accepted & agree to abide by the forum rules.
Now whether or not a site/forum would want to do something like that is probably doubtful (I'd hope) as that would more than likely create problems between the community & a forum. Maybe they have to include such verbiage in their rules to protect themselves when including information/content from the forums in their newsletters and things like that.
It would probably be a good idea to contact these sites and ask about this particular rule to see why it's there. In the meanwhile I thought it would be a good idea to start some kind of dialog about these type rules just so people are aware.
