entry: Jeff - We've known each other now for what seems like years on the net and even met in person at Siggraph. You've taught me almost everything that I know about mental ray and I would like to deeply thank you for that. We've talked about this in the past and you know how I feel about it, you have to do what you have to do, but you don't have to quit something that's more than a job, but a passion.

If you need to talk, ever, just give me a shout man. Again, I thank you for always being so open to help and such a huge contributor to many large cg communities on the net.

entry: It is hard for me to believe that somebody with your skills and knowledge has to walk away from the profession. It is heart-breaking really. I hope it will work out, or at least you will find the time in the future to do some 3d on your spare time.

Thank you once again for your kind and sincere efforts to help the community.

mental images owes you a -very big- thank you too.

entry: Hi Jeff:

I have been this same situation before, for many architectural firms, there bread and butter is to produce drawings, 3D is just a sideline, and I understand that 3D is necesary, but for some clients just simple graphics will do. There is always an up and down economic cycle, always. Continue to do what you do best. That is what i have done. I lost my house, not due to economy times, but for other reasons. Without work and no home, and 3 kids as a single parent looks bleak. But all worked out, got a great job, doing 3d, and the company manages around 16 Billon in project, and it is small.

Just continue forward, keep your hope, and do not give up. 3D is your passion. Be unique as you are now in it.

entry: Hi Jeff,

Just want to say thanks, and thats a big THANKS!

Without you very kindly and unselfishly sharing your knowledge I would be still scratching my head and wondering was it all worth it... I have seen my own work improve significantly with every post on your blog, so cant emphasize enough how grateful I am!

The industry we are in has seen many up and downs, and I have been there riding them all, and I am sure you will be on a wave soon again, so keep you chin up and keep going!

All the best mate, and dont stop!

Many thanks,

Wiz.

entry: rquinn: Thank you. I'm trying to stay positive and hope something develops soon that allows me to continue doing what I love.

Jason: Thanks for the support my friend.

ex-Cathedra: Thank you for the kind words. LOL, nobody owe's me anything. It's been my pleasure to be able to offer some help to people over the years. I've always tried to payback the kindness that I received when I was starting out.

cecofuli: Thank you for the support.

davedavidson: Oh my! I'm sorry to hear that Dave. I've been a fan of your work for a long time now. I hope your situation turns around as well. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any opportunities that may be beneficial to you as well.

ralopez: Very inspiring story! (thanks for sharing). I'm hoping our economy will improve after the November election...with a LOT of luck or a miracle (or two) I'll be able to tough this out. If not, then at least I tried and had a good run at it, and met a lot of great people in the process.

Wiz-Wiz-Wiz: Thank you for taking the time to offer support & kind words. I certainly hope the low-point of this tidal wave I'm stuck on ends soon.

entry: just wanna say thanks jeff, you also taught me everything i know about mental ray pretty much, almost to the point where i am comfortable using it and also training it to people now as part of my role at my current company. so thanks for that, i am now learning other render engines which you have made a lot easier as i have been able to adapt all of my mental ray knowledge quickly.

but on a final note, whatever you decide to do, make sure you make a blog about it, and share the link so that we can all become experts in that industry too
good luck

another question, is this blog still going to be hosted as i constantly use it for reference

entry: Dear Jeff,

God bless you...It was you with your helpfull hints and tips that brought light to our first steps in the long journey of the mental ray knowledgement.

The scenes, shaders that you gave us free to study were crucial to our day to day work...

I wish you the best and that may GOD give you some of the much you gave us...

Sincerely,

Your friend Jomar Machado
