VRay materials (naturally) and I lit the scene with my own panoramic HDR image and matching back plate. At 4k resolution my panoramic HDR's aren't cutting it for large renders (notice the stretched environment reflections on the paint). Guess I'll have to try some wide angle lenses instead of my fisheye so I can create higher resolution HDR's.
FWIW, here's a small preview of the environment HDR:

I just had to light, texture and render the scene. I used mental ray in 3dsmax9. I used the "low" FG preset, but there are a few fg artifacts that should clear up with some higher settings. But for a 32 minute render...I thought it wasn't bad.

Mental Ray Light Test

This model comes from a thread at Vizdepot.com. The goal of the thread & providing the model is/was to display different lighting configurations in Mental Ray (3dsmax), and then discuss the settings.
The untextured & unlit model was provided in the thread and of course it's design was based on Jonatan's (aka Sytron) wonderful Maxwell render here:
[url]http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=1671368&postcount=1[url]
I know it's a bit dark near the camera, mainly due to my editing in photoshop. The original render was a bit brighter. However, I liked the contrast, so I left the dark areas in (even though it's unatural looking).
Comments and critiques are certainly welcomed.
