We will be opening the doors on Monday (7/21/08) to
http://mrmaterials.com/. It's a free mental ray material exchange site. The owner of the site Russell Thomas is also the founder of
http://www.3dallusions.com/. Russell has generously funded the mrmaterials.com project out of his own pocket. The site is free for us all to enjoy, so I would like to publicly thank Russell for his gracious contribution to the mental ray community.
In addition to Russell's generosity,
http://www.arroway.de/ textures has donated twenty full resolution texture maps to our cause! We will be distributing these twenty wonderful, high resolution textures one per week. Again, a huge thank you to the folks at Arroway for supporting our efforts as well.
For reference here's a few examples of the Arroway textures applied to our hard-surfaces test scene:

In addition to all these goodies, I'd also like to thank
http://www.doschdesign.com/ for donating one of their full size .HDR's for use in our test scenes!
Not only will mrmaterials.com support mental ray in 3ds Max, but we also have sections for Maya, XSI, and mental ray stand alone. We also have an area to simply share texture maps.
Finally (whew), Russell has given me a new home for my blog. I have already moved most of the content from this blog over there:
http://mrmaterials.com/index.php?op...d=46&Itemid=100
Starting today I will be using the blog feature at mrmaterials.com to post new content. I will of course post update notices here as well.
There's more to the site than what I have covered here, I just wanted to start getting the word out. I would say more but I need to get back to work uploading more content to the site to prepare for the launch!
Please drop by and make use of this wonderful addition to the mental ray community.
